Citation of Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda

Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda was appointed Secretary to the Borno State Government by His Excellency the Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff in the year 2005. In spite of some changes in key positions in government following the 2007 elections, he maintains his post as the Secretary to the Government. This is indicative of trust and confidence the government of Senator Ali Sheriff has in him.
He was born in Kirenowa town of Monguno Local Government Area some nine years before Nigerian Independence, thus precisely on 1st October 1951. He started his Primary education in Marte Elementary School in 1957. He proceeded to Senior Primary School, Maiduguri in 1961, which he completed in 1964. Upon obtaining the First School Leaving Certificate (FSLS), popularly known as “Primary Seven Certificate”, he proceeded to the former Provincial Secondary School, Maiduguri in 1965. In 1969, he obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC), which qualified him for entry into the Higher School Certificate (HSC) from which he came out with flying colours-as the best student in English.
Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda obtained Bachelors degree in Political Science in 1975, at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. After his National Youth Service Corpse (NYSC), he took up appointment with the Borno State Government as Assistant Secretary. From 1980 and 1982 he was in the University of Manchester for a Postgraduate Diploma and Masters Degree in Development Economics. Upon returning from U.K, he continued his service in the Borno State Government, holding various positions, including that of ‘Under-Secretary’, ‘Acting Permanent Secretary (Political Affairs)’ and ‘Head of Administration, Ministry of Works and Housing.’ He was also the General Manager/Sole Administrator of Borno Radio Television Corporation (BRTV) from January 1985 to June 1986. From June 1986 till 1988, he was the Chairman/Sole Administrator of Monguno Local Government. He was elected member of the Constituent Assembly in 1988.
Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda transferred his service to the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs in 1990, where he served as Deputy Director, Finance and Supply. At the federal level, he also served in various capacities, including that of ‘Special Assistant to the Minister of State for Petroleum and Mineral Resources,’ ‘Director, Department of Civic Registration (DNRC)’, ‘Special Assistant to the Minister of State Solid Minerals Development’ and ‘Director of Finance and Supply in the Code of Conduct Bureau.’
In 1997 he came back to the Borno State Government as Secretary to the State Government and Head of Service. In 1998, he resigned his appointment and contested for Governorship in the 1999 General Elections on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In September 1999 he was appointed Ambassador to the Burkina Faso. Between December 2001 and June 2003, Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda was Senior Special Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on National Emergency.
Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda has won several merit awards and has participated in many adhoc committees. He is married and his hobbies include reading, traveling and playing golf.
