A former Military Governor of the then North Eastern State of Nigeria (May 1966 to July 1975), Brigadier Abba Kyari (rtd) was born in 1938 and had his primary education in Damasak Elementary School. From the Elementary School he proceeded to Borno Middle School. He had also attended the famous Barewa College, Zaria. Upon completion of his studies in the Barewa College, he enlisted in the Nigerian Army as an Officer Cadet. That was in 1959. In the army, he attended various courses, some of which are:
1. The 12th Regular Officers’ Training School, Teshia, Ghana from March 1959 to September 1959.
2. Mons Officer Cadet School, Aldershot, England from October 1959 to March 1960.
3. Infantry Small Arms School and Platoon Commanders Course at the School of Infantry, Warminster, England, between 1961 and 1962.
4. Army Mechanical Transport School, Bordon, England for various Courses pertaining to Army Transportation.
5. British Army School of Artillery, Larkhill, England from August 1963 to January 1964.
6. Various Artillery Courses at the US School of Artillery, Fortsill, Oklohoma, from April 1965 to April 1966.

A product of Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, Boston, USA, Brigadier Abba Kyari (rtd) holds the following certificates:
