History of Yale
Bosoma Sheriff and Muhammad Fannami

The headship of Yale, a town in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State was first in the hands of descendants of Sheikh Ali Aisatami. After his death his son Shettima Zaria became the ruler. Shettima Zaria came from Dikwa. Shettima Zaria died as a result of a fire outbreak in his compound. Oral evidence however indicate that when the fire settled, the people discovered the village head’s religious books were not destroyed by the fire and there was no sign of burn on the body of the village head although he was lifeless.
The second ruling family were descendants of Shettima Umar. When Shettima Umar died, his son Shettima Usman became the village head. After Shettima Umar came his son Shettima Masu who ruled the area for eighty years, a legendary rule of forty years with normal eyes and forty years as a blind man.
The third ruling family is the family of Lawan Grema. Lawan Grema, who became the village head of Yale in 1948 ruled for thirty eight years. After him, his son, the present District head of Konduga, Zanna Masu, became the village head of Yale. In recent times another village unit called Gambaram was carved out of Yale. Currently, Gambaram has Lawan Goni as village head, while Zanna Masu’s brother, Abba Yusuf, is the village head of Yale.

(This history is developed from an oral narration by the District of Konduga, Zanna Masu, who was interviewed by KASA in August 2009 in Konduga).
